Unit 4 Grammar: Ser
In this unit, the focus is on the verb ser.
In Spanish, one of the verbs for "to be" is the verb ser. There are two verbs for "to be", but in this lesson, we'll focus only on one: ser.
Ser is generally used when we describe who we are and where we are from which includes nationality, profession, personal characteritics or pesonality traits.
Yo soy alto = I am tall
Ella es mexicana = She is mexican
Yo soy maestro de español = I am a Spanish teacher
La sicóloga es muy paciente = The psycologist is very patient
There are some other usages for ser, but for now, this is what we will focus on in this unit.
Conjugation
Ser is an irregular verb and here is how it is conjugated:
Yo soy
Tú eres
Él, ella, usted es
Nosotros somos
Vosotros sois
(you guys, only in Spain)
Vos sos
(You, singular, informal in countries like Argentina, Uruguay, El Salvador and others)
Ellos, ellas, ustedes son
